Now that the ECOC 2023 show is over, we thought we’d do a roundup of the show that would take a quick look at the major storylines we saw during the show.
At ECOC 2023, Lightwave saw several key trends:
Interoperability: Multiple suppliers interoperability was a key theme at ECOC 2023. The Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) and Ethernet Forum hosted multi-vendor interoperability demonstrations. The OIF Interoperability Demonstration included 39 companies demonstrating interoperability work in four areas: 400ZR+, co-packaging solutions, IEC-112G and IEC-224G, and CMIS implementations. With speeds ranging from 10 GbE to 800 GbE, the Ethernet Alliance demonstration featured optical cabling and interconnects, switches, routers, transceivers, test and measurement equipment, and form factors pluggable devices such as OSFP, QSFP-DD, QSFP and SFP. Finally, the Open XR forumThe symposium presented the latest transceiver specifications, including thermal, mechanical and electro-optical characteristics.
Moving to 800 G and beyond: The growing interest in cloud computing and cloud services, which has created new demands for higher bandwidth, faster speed and lower latency performance, meaning high-speed switches are more widely used , such as 400G and 800G switches. Several optical component suppliers demonstrated new platforms, including
Broadcom, Consistent, Photonic EFFECT, LESSORS, Lumentum And Source Photonics which data center providers can take advantage of to scale their networks.
Mergers and Acquisitions : Teledyne LeCroy proposed to acquire Xena Networks ApS, adding Terabit Ethernet traffic generation to its test portfolio. Xena, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, offers high-speed Terabit Ethernet validation, quality assurance and production testing solutions.
Essay: Even though there was no shortage of optical components and system vendors introducing new products capable of satisfying the growing bandwidth needs of vendors and data center operators, the need for testing never arose. been that big. At ECOC, testing providers Keysight, Viavi and Quantifi presented new test innovations this will be useful to manufacturers and service providers.
Network visionaries shared their views on the industry: ECOC 2023 also highlighted the talents of industry visionaries: Polina Bayvel, professor of optical communications and networks, Optical Networks Group, UCL and Colin Lees, Director of Technology and Information, Openreach.
A lot was discussed at ECOC 2023, and we couldn’t cover all of it. Discussions on the above topics are likely to continue.
