As access to space continues to expand and humanity prepares to return to the Moon to establish a lasting presence off-world, private companies are laying the foundation for a new economy in space .
To help highlight the new opportunities that a space economy will provide, The Economist launches its very first Space Economy Summit. The event will take place October 11-12 in Los Angeles, California and can be attended in person or virtually.
Some of the topics that will be discussed at the summit include spaceflight sustainability and space debris mitigation, on-orbit manufacturing, Earth observation and long-term space commercialization and exploration. “If space has always captivated the imagination, its commercial, social and environmental potential is now more tangible than ever,” underlines a press release. “As the space industry continues to advance, the Space Economy Summit will highlight the vast opportunities it opens up across all sectors.”

Shaw of United States Space Command; and Dylan Taylor, president and CEO of Voyager Space.
The summit aims to help leaders in the commercial and government space sectors share ideas that can advance the new and growing off-world economy.
“Today, space is everyone’s business. The rapid expansion of the industry provides immense opportunities for collaboration across all sectors,” said Helen Ponsford, Head of Business, Technology Events Programming and industrialists at The Economist, in a press release. “We are delighted that the Space Economy Summit will facilitate crucial conversations about realizing the full potential of new space. Speakers and participants will leave with concrete ideas to help accelerate innovation in the space economy.
