On Monday, Rivian released – then abruptly canceled – an over-the-air software update that Free bug fixes and improvements to a feature called proximity lock. Instead, the update screwed up some Rivian R1T and R1S infotainment systems.
“It’s our fault, we made a mistake”, Rivian told to drivers. The company blamed “a big finger who sent the wrong version with the wrong security certificates.” Rivian said it rolled back the update and that its service staff would contact people with bricked systems to resolve the issue. This “may require physical repairs in some cases,” the company said.
Proximity lock automatically locks or unlocks the doors when you exit or approach your vehicle. Over the past year, the feature has been the subject of many complaint threads on Reddit.
The software flaw was present in Rivian update 2023.42.0. The company told TechCrunch: “In most cases, the rest of the vehicle’s systems are operational. »
Update: On November 15, a Rivian spokesperson told TechCrunch that 3% of its vehicles were affected by the problem. “We are providing an over-the-air update for an R1T and R1S infotainment issue that will restore full functionality,” they added.
