Utah on Tuesday became the latest state to file a complaint against TikTok, alleging that the company “encourages” children to adopt addictive and unhealthy habits on social media. From a report: TikTok lures children into hours of social media use, misrepresents the app’s security and misrepresents itself as independent from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, Utah claims in the lawsuit. “We will not stand idly by while these companies fail to take adequate and meaningful action to protect our children. We will succeed in holding social media companies accountable by any means necessary,” said Republican Governor Spencer Cox during a press conference announcing the trial. which was filed in state court in Salt Lake City. Arkansas and Indiana have filed similar lawsuits as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to decide whether the state’s attempts to regulate social media platforms such as Facebook, X and TikTok violate the Constitution.
