Western Sydney University has established a cutting-edge program to strengthen the career pathways of casual academic staff by creating the equivalent of 150 full-time positions by March 1, 2025. The WSU Decasualization Program will play an important role in reducing the level of precarious work in the sector. Australian Higher Education Sector.
With this in mind, the University seeks to recruit candidates in whom it can invest and develop over the long term, including training during the confirmation period to help candidates maintain stable and continuous employment. On this basis, the University is looking for candidates who have full-time employment rights until at least March 1, 2025, in force at the time of application.
Successful candidates will undertake teaching, while also having the opportunity to develop a research portfolio and contribute to the University through governance activities at school and/or university level.
Eligibility
Successful candidates will be subject to a two-year confirmation period and will be required to demonstrate at the time of their application that they:
- have been engaged as a casual academic for at least 2 teaching sessions in the previous 2 years at an Australian tertiary institution; And
- hold or have submitted all requirements for a doctorate or other relevant AQF level 10 qualification; And
- have not held a permanent position with an Australian higher education institution in the previous 3 years; And
- are an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia or have full-time employment rights until at least 1 March 2025, in force at the time of application.
School of Science
The School of Science is a large interdisciplinary school whose excellence in learning, teaching and research encompasses a broad range of biological, chemical, environmental, food, forensic, medical, nutritional and physical sciences, including agriculture and astrophysics. The School trains the graduates of tomorrow in a contemporary environment, stimulating and adaptable to a rapidly changing world. It offers a range of bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees using the excellent teaching, laboratory and fieldwork facilities at the Campbelltown, Hawkesbury, Parramatta and Penrith campuses, as well as online activities. The School’s research-focused teaching draws on cutting-edge educational technologies.
The School provides all undergraduate and graduate students with cutting-edge, integrated learning and research experiences. This approach is underpinned by a strong commitment to working on integrated learning with business, industry, government and the wider community.
The school’s bachelor’s degrees include a wide range of specializations, minors, interdisciplinary offerings and electives, with access via pathway programs and opportunities for further study into research master’s degrees, Ph.D. and master’s degree in progress. The role
The Associate Lecturer (Geospatial Science and Technology) will be involved in a range of academic activities, including the development, design and delivery of teaching in areas relevant to agricultural technologies, agribusiness, environmental assessment and monitoring and management of terrestrial and aquatic environments.
A significant part of the role involves teaching, including developing, designing and delivering innovative and engaging teaching materials. You will also have time to develop your research portfolio and have the opportunity to be mentored in your research by senior academic staff at the University. Additionally, you will be expected to participate in activities related to administration and governance.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate excellence in teaching as well as a high level of energy and commitment to further developing a new and relevant research profile for the particular discipline.
This is a full-time, ongoing position starting in 2024.
Remuneration: Academic Level A $103,304 to $124,808 per annum (comprising salary of $87,293 to $105,464 per annum, plus superannuation and leave loading, plus 3.35% increase due October 2023 ).
