TOKYO — U.S. controls on advanced technology exports to China may not align with Japan’s interests, a former U.S. trade official said Saturday, highlighting challenges in coordinating economic security policies between the two allies .
“We’ve talked about Japan as our best friend… but then we go ahead and pass (or) implement legislation that is clearly more about promoting America’s economic interests,” said Wendy Cutler, former Acting Deputy United States Trade Representative and now America’s Vice President. the Asian Society Policy Institute.
